this first half is the best I’ve seen us play in a long long time. Hope Samuel is ok.

  2. pintadoazulblanco says:

Argentina is in control of this game.

Great to see Higuain scoring a goal.

Di Maria is more involved in the attack.

The play buildup still needs improvement.

  3. pintadoazulblanco says:

Bad end to the first half but Argentina needs to seal the win in the second half.

  4. chris says:

    WTF!!!

muy confiado demichelis… those are errors we need to work on and be careful with.

  5. pintadoazulblanco says:

Yeah, the kind of error that cannot be made in a WC.

  6. Humbird says:

Second half. Are our players asleep or what?

  7. chris says:

ok so like we said… jonas is out next game. and masche already has 1 yellow… now what ???
big upset for masche’s card… that worries me.

  8. chris says:

    GRAAAANDE PIPITA !!!!!

  9. chris says:

depending on nigeria and greece match today, i’ll feel comfortable making some changes for next game to let some of our players rest and not risk another yellow or injury… leaving out heinze, higuain for milito or kun, pastore in for messi..\

    what does everyone think ?

    • pintadoazulblanco says:

I agree Chris. That would be the sensible thing to do.

Especially resting Higuain and Messi for the elimination round.

I felt so happy when Maradona withdraw Tevez. He was loosing balls too easily. He does work hard for the balls, but losing balls mostly around the enemy penalty box was not good at all. And the substitution had immediate effect. Maxi is no match for Veron for sure. Veron’s build up play with Messi was excellent. Well, very releived that we had a good win.

    • pintadoazulblanco says:

      I agree Rajesh.

I don’t think having Tevez in the lineup has proven to be very effective so far. Like you said, he’s losing alot of balls and I don’t think he’s done well linking up with the other forwards.

But I don’t think Maradona will have the strength or courage to take Tevez out of the lineup.

I’m so happy for the win. The sun has come out here in Buenos Aires, buenas vibras and beautiful day! I would play Burdisso as right back or Clemente. Hopefully Samuel is okay. Too many yellow cards today, they gotta be careful with that…but at the same time, the arbitro kind of bothered me.

I’d like to see Milito get some playing time and put Pastore in the lineup as well. Aguero had some really nice runs and Messi is doing everything right except meeting the back of the net. It’ll come though, maybe next match.

I agree with your recommendations for subs, Chris. VAMOS ARGENTINAAAA!!!

  12. Dano says:

You got the sensation that Argentina could break their scheme at any time. when messi turned it up a notch the match was over. great game for pipita. big effort from el apache. in retrospect smart move by maradona sending in el kun. the koreans were done.

we want to keep building…i would not substitute anyone in the starting lineup against greece unless due to injury/yellows. save the rest for key guys in the second half.

lets hope samuel is ok. very satisfied with this effort.

  13. Humbird says:

is there any mathematical way that we lose first place in the group? I’m thinking about positioning for the next round and potential adversaries.

    • pintadoazulblanco says:

Argentina can only lose first place by goal difference.

If South Korea wins their game by 4 or 5 goals or if Greece does the same.

      • Fan40mill says:

Argentina, from my understanding can still miss out.

The rules to move to the knock out stage are first the greatest number of points in all group matches then the goal difference in all group matches…etc

In other words, if Argentina lose 6 nil to Greece and Korea beat Nigeria 6 nil, Argentina are out.

I thinks this is how it works, but would be happy to be corrected.

        Regards

Another very good game by Argentina.

Gutiérrez kept formation well and had a solid game as right back. Di-Maria found space early on. Maxi also slotted in very nicely and with the 4-3-3 formation they keep playing, the need for a player such as Veron and even Pastore is less relevant -I’d still like to see the latter come on-.

Messi is playing without restrictions and is a fraction away from really lighting up the world cup. I’m particularly happy with Higuain because we finally have a genuine number nine. As for Tevez, I don’t mind if he doesn’t score a single goal all tournament since his movement and tenacity rush any defence in the world and he has the skill to then move play forward- though not to the best of his ability this game.

Even Maradona is coaching well. Kun’s introduction was excellent although I have to admit at the time I was hoping he’d sure up the defence instead. At the end of the game it reminded me of a great coach by the name of Guus Hiddink who was asked, on another match, why did he bring on a fast attacker when defence seemed more obvious. He answered back by saying he wanted to ensure the quick full backs lacked the confidence to join an inevitable attack as they were chasing goals, much like Korea. Kun, however, not only ensured the Koreans kept out of the attack, he was also instrumental in both goals. For me, Maradona’s best substitution to date.

On the down side there is Walter Samuel’s injury -easily our best defender- and Gutiérrez and Mascherano’s yellow cards. Not to go on about this, but I would do anything to know Cambiasso was on the bench ready to replace Mascherano.

Strangely, Gutiérrez being out for the next game may work for us. I still want to see four centre backs in the current 4-3-3 formation. Greece need a win and showed when that open up, can score. Argentina are not there yet so it will be a proper game.

    Regards

i dont want to jump the gun, or sound too cocky and wish bad luck on us, but if we turn out to in first place, and in Group A, Mexico comes out 2nd, well if im not mistaken, looks like we’ll be meeting again this year for a knock out round, and im gonna be honest with u guys… im a bit worried about that.. 🙂
Mexico are really bothered by us, they cant stand us, and will never forget Maxi’s famous goal that sent them back home the last wc, they want to beat us and eliminate us like no other…i know they started off bad, but i’ve been watching them, and looks like they play well and have a great play build up…i dont kw, maybe im speaking too soon.

  16. pintadoazulblanco says:

We’ll have to wait and see.

It could be Uruguay that we face.

Needless to say, that would not be an easy game either.

If we do play Mexico, it’ll be time to replace Maxi’s goal and create some new memories 🙂

  17. pintadoazulblanco says:

I’m hoping that Argentina does play Mexico in the next round.

    Reason # 1

Eliminate Mexico again from a World Cup and further inflame the dislike the Mexicans have towards Argentina.

    Reason # 2

No longer have to watch non-stop coverage of Mexico on Univision during the World Cup.

    🙂

  18. chris says:

    hahahahahahhahahahah

i guess ur right… i cant stop laughing about it..
