OK well i cant say im gonna lose sleep over this news.
I know that i prefer the selecion without him in the first 11. Surely pastore or even bolatti can be a faster playmaker, good for those fast counter attacks.
I like to see pastore play he may link up well with messi.

any thoughts? or am i just talking crap 😛

    I agree with you.

Let’s hope that Pastore gets in the lineup and plays great so that Veron stays on the bench for the rest of the WC.

Two of Maradona’s mistakes with the WC squad have already come to light and have been exposed after the first game.

Choosing Veron for the playmaker spot in the WC.

I think just about everybody has been aware heading into the WC that Veron is too old, slow, physically unfit and injury prone to be in the WC starting lineup, let alone to be the team’s playmaker.

Foolishly, Maradona has stuck by Veron. The only options Argentina now has in the playmaker spot is Pastore.

A young, inexperienced and unproven Pastore.

I hope he gets a chance to play and that he plays great but Argentina should have had players like Aimar or Banega in the squad as alternatives for the playmaker spot.

The other visible mistake was leaving Zanetti out of the WC squad.

Improvising with Jonas in the right-back spot did not look very good against Nigeria.

As of right now, Argentina is vulnerable in that position.

If he remains in the lineup, Jonas needs to play in the right-midfield spot.

Foolishly, Maradona left Zanetti out of the WC squad.

Argentina needs a reliable right-back in this WC.

It’s a little too late now, isn’t it?

Hey Ron, what do you think about Burdisso starting as right back. I know it’s not the same as Zanetti, but it’s a better option than having Jonas starting as RB imo. I also agree, I think Pastore is better suited for the faster paced forwards, maybe set the tempo better.

  6. pintadoazulblanco says:

Mikey, I do not like center-backs playing out of position as fullbacks. Both positions are obviously very different and require defenders of different characteristics.

But I agree with you. Burdisso, playing out of position, should still provide better defensive support to the backline than Jonas.

Thanks to Maradona, What other options does Argentina have for the right-back spot?

    Clemente Rodriguez?

    I certainly hope not.

The problem with Burdisso is that Argentina will not have an attacking outlet from the right-back position.

What is clear, after the Nigeria game, is that Argentina cannot play with a 3 man backline.

I agree with you about Pastore too. Even though it was against Canada, in that game Pastore showed that he could effectively distribute the ball, he could go deep on the attack and adapt & play well alongside our fast paced forwards.

    I’m really hopeful about Pastore.

Angel Cappa said that after playing this season in Italy, Pastore is ready for the world cup.

Whether he is or not. It’s Pastore’s time to get in the lineup and take charge of Argentina’s attack.
