World Cup Preliminary List

These are the 30 players that Maradona has chosen for the initial WC list:

GK – Sergio Romero
GK – Mariano Andujar
GK – Diego Pozo

D – Martin Demichelis
D – Walter Samuel
D – Nicolas Otamendi
D – Nicolas Burdisso
D – Gabriel Heinze
D – Fabricio Coloccini
D – Ariel Garce
D – Clemente Rodriguez
D – Juan Insaurralde

M – Javier Mascherano
M – Angel Di Maria
M – Jonas Gutierrez
M – Juan Sebastian Veron
M – Mario Bolatti
M – Jesus Datolo
M – Maxi Rodriguez
M – Jose Sosa
M – Javier Pastore
M – Juan Mercier
M – Sebasatian Blanco

F – Lionel Messi
F – Gonzalo Higuain
F – Carlos Tevez
F – Diego Milito
F – Sergio Aguero
F – Martin Palermo
F – Ezequiel Lavezzi

I am so disgusted at this moment. More than disgusted.

Look at the players on this list:

Coloccini?

Garce?

Clemente Rodriguez?

Insaurralde?

Datolo?

Sosa?

Bolatti?

Mercier?

Blanco?

It is clear that the SOB is not taking Zanetti & Cambiasso to the World Cup because of PERSONAL REASONS.

There are no football reasons, no football arguments that can be made against Zanetti and Cambiasso. NONE.

The SOB has Coloccini and Insaurralde on the list but not Gaby Milito.

The SOB has Mercier and Bolatti on the list but not Cambiasso or Banega.

Sosa and Blanco and not D’Alessandro or Aimar.

I am so angry right now that I can’t write any more.

  1. Not including Zanetti is a disgrace. Most capped, x-captain, playing in great form with inter, versatile in both defensive wings and midfield, and did a great job stopping messi in the champions.. what else could we ask of him? 4 central defenders? The rest of the list is ok with me.

  2. quico882k3 says:

I feel like jumping off a bridge right now i feel bad for players like Banega Zanetti Insua Zabaleta Cambiasso Aimar that know they have way more talent then of the scrubs on that list

  3. Chris says:

i seriously want to throw up right now… no joke, my stomach is in knots !

sorry, but what the hell has :Otamendi, Arce, Insaurralde, Clemente, Sosa, Mercier, Blanco have done for the NT !?!?!

im not joking fellas, i seriously want to cry right now.

I dont see the point of watching the WC anymore…

Arce… ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME !?!?!?

  4. Chris says:

sorry, i ment Garce, not Arce.

Garce….. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME !?!?!?!?

    • pintadoazulblanco says:

      Chris,

I was expecting a bad WC list but not this bad.

It is UNFORGIVABLE what this SOB has done to Zanetti and Cambiasso.

It is clear that he has something personal against Zanetti & Cambiasso.

Even reducing this list to the final list won’t make that much of a difference.

      What a disaster.

      What a nightmare.

  5. Pablito says:

Me cago en vos Maracoca. Everyone Buenos Aires, knows. Diego doesnt want Messi to surpass him.

  6. pintadoazulblanco says:

Dunga and Brasil must be laughing their asses off today.

  7. Chris says:

    im seriously disgusted guys…

he decides to call up players who have only played 2 games, instead of Cuchu and Zanetti… and to make things worse, they are players who played against Panama, and Haiti… WHAT A FUCKING JOKE !

mark my word, they are going to put a bullet in his head if we come back the first round..

i seriously dont knw what to say anymore… im with you Ron, i knew it was going to be bad, but not this bad..

Insaurralde, Garce, Mercier, Bolatti, Blanco, CLEMENTE…. SERIOUSLY !?!?!

JEEEZ, IM SO FUCKING PISSED !

its true, my uncle says the same thing, Diego lo va fracasar a Messi en el Mundial, he doesn’t want Messi to be better then him..

  8. Pablito says:

    better start praying….

  9. pintadoazulblanco says:

Maradona is not clueless, he is sick in the head.

Coloccini, Garce, Clemente Rodriguez, Insaurralde, Otamendi for the backline instead of Zanetti, Zabaleta, Gaby Milito, Insua.

Bolatti & Mercier for the central midfield spot instead of Cambiasso and Banega.

Datolo, Sosa & Blanco instead of D’Alessandro, Aimar, Lucho Gonzalez.

4 players called up to the WC squad list whose only international experience is playing against Haiti.

Maradona is sick in the head.

  10. pintadoazulblanco says:

The SOB killed the hopes and dreams of millions of Argentina fans today.

  11. Chris says:

    Ron,

    IM DISGUSTED !!!!

    This is so depressing.

    Mercier, Blanco, Clemente, Insaurralde, Garce

    are you serious ???

so many years of drugs and alcohol does to ur brain..

seriously, what did this guy see in these players against Haiti, panama, Costa Rica?????

I hope Diego brakes his leg or something

  12. Fan40mill says:

Like everyone else, I’m disappointed with the list. I suspect that a few of those call ups are simply there for Maradona to tip his hat to them but then scratch them of the 23 man squad- at least I hope!

The eleven men on the park is where my focus is now. From the list supplied and Maradona’s comments in the past, Argentina will field a strong side with a boring but effective 4-4-2 formation.

But now we have an interesting problem; injury and yellow/red card concerns during the World Cup. There are no, in my onion, quality reserves. Argentina has the best number fives in the world with players such as Mascherano, Cambiasso, Gago, Banega; the only one to make the squad is Mascherano, but if he gets injured- what then.

Defense is the same problem. I’ve criticised Heinz in the past but I have to say that his club form, as left back, has been excellent. Ottemdi I feel should also start. Samuel and Demichelis speak for themselves. But again, if there were injuries I’d feel a lot better that Gaby Milito replace them than some of the other names on the list.

The eleven men on the park can still win it, but I’ll be praying they stay on the park.

    Regards

      Fan40mill, Two questions for you:

Why do you think that a young & inexperienced Otamendi should start in the WC and play out of position as a right-back?

Why does Heinze’s club form matter when his national team form has been poor during the entire WC qualifying campaign and in friendlies?

  13. Humbird says:

be angry at Maradona, but don’t be angry with the players. It’s not their fault they were called and some others weren’t.

  14. Chris says:

I dont think anyone is angrey at the players, I actually feel very bad that zanetti and cuchu are missing out considering this would’ve been their last chance at the WC..

    I agree with you Ron,

I’ve said it before, Otamendi shouldn’t even be allowed to wear the NT jersey yet..

to think he called up players who’s only played 2 with the NT, especially against teams like Panama and Haiti???. WHAT A JOKE !

i might be wrong, but some of the Home Base Players the Idiot listed barely have any European Experiance, some none at all, and to think these are going to be put to the test with the best in the world ????

    wow !

  15. pintadoazulblanco says:

I’m not angry at the players but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be critical of the worthiness of the callups.

9 domestic based players have made the WC list. 4 of these players have only played in one international game and that was against an amateur team from Haiti.

2 players on the list played in the English second division this season.

Bolatti is no longer in his club team’s starting lineup and has one season of European football experience.

Sosa was a failure with Bayern Munich and was sent back to Argentina.

Aguero, Palermo and Lavezzi are the least in form forwards on the WC list.

  16. Moe says:

i wish maradona never lives to see the world cup!!! what unjustice for zanetti to miss 2 WC!!!! OMG i am loosing my mind.

No Banega, Cambisso, Lucho in the midfield…and he brings god knows who!!!

has to go before smashing my computer

    • SOHAM says:

Moe,, WHAT HAS BEEN DECIDED CANT BE CHANGED RIGHT??? NOW ITS THE TIME TO FORGET ALL THE HARD FEELINGS AND DIFFERENCES.. LET US BE UNITE AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.. WE THE PEOPLE OF ARGENTINA, DONT SUPPORT OUR TEAM AT THIS MOMENT THEN THEIR MORALE WILL BE DOWN AND PERFORMANCE WILL REALLY GET DOWN…SO FORGET ALL THINGS WHICH WE THINK IS WRONG, SUPPORT THE DECISION NOW WHICH HAS BEEN TAKEN…WHAT IF ARIEL GRACE, OTAMENDI AND MARTIN PALERMO
PLAYS THE BEST FOOTBALL OF THEIR LIFE??? BE UNITED AND PRAY THAT ARGENTINA FULFILS THE DREAM WHICH WE DREAM EACH AND EVERY DAY… LASTLY TAKING ABOUT MARADONA LIKE THAT IS NOT FAIR FRIEND,, HE WIS THE ONLY PERSON FOR WHICH OUR DREAM HAS BEEN FULFILLED TWICE!! NO ZANETTI NO CAMBIASSO NO BANEGA OK!!!! WHAT WE HAVE IS OK!!! MESSI DIEGO MILITO,MASCHERANO, RODRIGUEZ,POCHO,DI MARIA,SAMUEL AND OTHERS R PRETTY FINE TO COMPETE AND DEFEAT ANY TEAM IN THE WORLD… BE HAPPY AND WISH LUCK TO OUR TEAM. VIVA MARADONA AND VIVA ARGENTINA.

  17. roland says:

Don’t know what to say about the list. Unfortunately, we are only fans, not the coach and we feel disappointed with some players in the list. However, let just hope they can win the cup 🙂

I agree with you. Maybe he didn’t call Zanetti, Cambiasso, Lucho, Aimar, Zabaleta, Insua, G. Milito because some reasons (maybe personal reason)

I don’t know some of the players in the list because they play in Argentina, but I heard Sebastian Blanco is a promising player. How do you think?
Why he didn’t include Facundo Bertoglio instead of Datolo, Mercier, Sosa, or Bolatti? 🙂

  18. argentina4life says:

hey why is everyone upset here?? this isn’t bad squad at all!!! only two or three players are useless that also hope they will not make it to 23 list so guys chill… luv u maradona…. VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!!!

  19. Fan 40mill says:

First Pintadoazulblanco, nice to hear from you and I appreciate your contribution to the cause.

Good questions, with no definitive answer and only an opinion to offer.

In relation to club form, for me, that is all that matters going into the World Cup and Heinze and Otemendi’s club form have been excellent.

I’ve hated Heinze going back to his Manchester United days and never saw what the big deal was. Earlier this year I thought he was a joke and couldn’t understand how he kept getting picked for Argentina apart from the political reasons mentioned on this Blog.

His last two games for Argentina however have been solid when we’ve played a standard 4-4-2 and his been used as a pure left back. Marseille have been solid and won a championship when his played as a pure left back and I think Argentina can be as solid as well- at least I hope so.

Otamendi best games for Argentina have been as right back although your 100% right in that it’s not his preferred position- but I think it should be. He reads the game well from defense and has good anticipation, which is why a lot a big clubs want him.

His downside is that he has zero attacking flair, but then in a straight out back four he doesn’t need to have attacking instincts, much like Heinze.

Should he have been picked for Argentina when he was? No, because he was inexperienced, but his experienced now.

Pintadoazulblanco, don’t get me wrong, would I rather have Zanetti there? Yes, because we could be more adventurous in attack. If you add Cambiasso and play 4-2-3-1, his raids out of right back would be covered. It would be brilliant.

But in a 4-4-2, I’d rather have a pure defender.

Please remember, I not agreeing with Maradona’s idea, but at least it’s an idea. The problem with his squad list is that I don’t think his to convinced with his idea either.

    Regards

    • pintadoazulblanco says:

I have to disagree with you regarding Otamendi.

I’ve watched Otamendi all season in the Apertura and Copa Libertadores and I do not think that his form has been excellent. He has not played poorly but it hasn’t been excellent either, in my view.

It is absolutely absurd to have someone with as little international experience as Otamendi starting in a WC and playing out of position.

The move is even more senseless considering that outstanding right-backs like Zanetti and Zabaleta were available.

Otamendi’s time with the national team is not now.

It is a really unjustifiable and irresponsible move by Maradona to have Otamendi not just on the WC squad but in the starting lineup in the WC.

  20. Dan says:

Zanetti and the other veterans left off the squad will make no difference to Argentina’s success or failure in this wc. Did any of these players lift a cup?? no, Maradona is 2 moves ahead of all of us, let’s stand and support his vision until the results are in. Our defense is finally solid, and with Messi we will never be out of it…be prepared for several overtime and penalty outcomes i.e 1990.
    VAMOS ARGENTINA!

  21. pintadoazulblanco says:

    That’s a ridiculous argument.

Using your logic, then How many Cups have Veron, Mascherano and Heinze lifted?

Having Zanetti, Cambiasso, Aimar, Gaby Milito in the WC lineup would have made a difference. Zanetti in the right-back spot, Cambiasso in the midfield, Aimar in the right-midfield spot and Milito in the backline.

Argentina would have been a much stronger team on the attack and on defense with these players.

  22. SOHAM says:

WHY ALWAYS ARGENTINA HAVE TO FACE ALL THIS?????????? WHERE IS ZANETTI,CAMBIASSO,RIQUELME,GABRIEL MILITO,BANEGA,ABALETA INSUA????? FREINDS I AM AN INDIAN BUT I AM AN ARGENTINIAN BORN… I LOVE ARGENTINA AND CANT SEE THESE NONSENSE HAPPENING… JUST SEE THE ENGLAND TEAM…SELECTORS THINK FOR THE COUNTRY BEFORE THERE PERSONAL GRUDGE!!!! WHY DIEGO??? THE IDOL OF ARGENTINA IS NOT YET LEARNED AFTER THE PERFORMANCE IN THE QUALIFIERS…ARIEL GRACE IN PLACE OF ZANETTI??? HOW MUCH CRAZY A PERSON CAN GET ARIEL ORTEGA WAS CALLED A FEW DAYS BACK TO PLAY THE WORLD CUP..HOPEFULLY HE IS OUT…. WHATEVER IS THE TEAM WE SHOULD NOW HOPE FER THE BEST…. LET THE REMAINING PLAYERS STRIVE FOR MY COUNTRY AND BRING THE WORLD CUP BACK… LAST THING I WANT TO SAY IS THAT, I PRAY TO GOD THAT ARGENTINA WINS THE WORLD CUP DEFEATING THE CRUELEST GERMAN TEAM.. VIVA MARADONA,VIVA ARGENTINA.
