Man City admit interest in Di Maria
Manchester City are expected to go on a Real Madrid-style spending spree this summer and technical director Mike Rigg has admitted that Benfica duo Angel di Maria and Oscar Cardozo are on their watch list.
Argentina international Di Maria and Paraguay forward Cardozo are two rising stars that City are hoping to recruit irrespective of whether they finish fourth in the Premier League to take the final Champions League qualifying place.
“Di Maria and Cardozo are two excellent players, very strong in their respective positions, and highly-rated in the international market,” Rigg told the Daily Telegraph.
“It is logical that a club like Manchester City have to be attentive to players with such potential. Di Maria and Cardozo are two fantastic players.”
The two Benfica players are part of a transfer strategy that will also target more established names should the club reach Europe’s most prestigious competition.
Di Maria, a left winger, has been attracting the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs and despite recently signing a new contract until 2015, it is understood the 22-year-old has an escape clause of £35 million.
