Di Maria cools talk of Manchester United or Chelsea transfer
Benfica winger Angel Di Maria has played down rumours of a big money move to England, following links to both Manchester United and Chelsea.
Reports in recent months claimed Chelsea had sent Frank Arnesen on scouting trips to watch Di Maria whilst Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson sees him as a possible long term replacement for Ryan Giggs .
But, the highly rated 22 year-old said, “I am not interested in the rumours – in England they look through everything with a magnifying glass but I don’t have to worry about it.
“At the moment I am only interested in Benfica and I think we can win anywhere in Europe.”
The Argentinian is now in his third season at Benfica and reportedly has a buyout clause of 50 million euros but the Portugese giants will apparently accept a fee of close to 25 million.
Following Franck Ribery ‘s statement that he will move to Spain if he leaves Bayern Munich, it leaves both Manchester United and Chelsea looking for other left-sided options and Di Maria would seem to fit the bill.
Meanwhile, Di Maria will take on Liverpool this evening in the Europa League and will line up against compatriots Javier Mascherano and Maxi Rodiguez.
Di Maria commented, “It makes this one even more intense and exciting.”
