Will Masche finally resign with Liverpool and remain in England?
Benitez expects Mascherano to sign new Liverpool contract
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez remains confident that Javier Mascherano will sign a new contract at the club.
Benitez said: “We were talking, progressing and we’re closer now. Still we need to talk a little bit but we are closer. It’s very important that we keep the spine of the team.”
The Merseyside giants have been in talks with Mascherano for some time as they look to ward off interest from Barcelona.
The Argentinean defensive midfielder is reportedly eager to receive pay parity with Liverpool’s biggest stars.
Mascherano has played 37 games for Liverpool this season in the Premier League and in European competition, scoring one goal. He has also been booked 10 times and picked up two yellow cards.
