Maradona: I have 60% of the WC squad decided

After last night’s Costa Rica game Maradona said that he already has 60% of the WC squad list decided and that Messi, Veron and Mascherano will definitely be in the WC squad.

Only three names were given by Maradona but he’s obviously made up his mind about many other players.

So, which other players has Maradona already picked for the WC squad?

I think these players are pretty much a lock for the final WC squad:

Maradona’s business partner Gabriel Heinze will surely be on the team.

As unbearable as it is for me to say, Jonas Gutierrez will make the squad.

Martin Demichelis who has not earned his spot on the team as far as I’m concerned will most likely go to the World Cup.

Maradona friends Tevez and Palermo will make the squad.

Aguero?

Is he deserving of a spot in the WC squad?

No.

Will that matter?

No.

Sergio Romero will be one of the GK’s chosen.

There will probably be at least one surprise on the final list if not more.

Who do you all think Maradona has chosen for the WC squad?

  1. Demichelis says:

Martin Demichelis has been great in the defence. As far as I’m concerned he is our only hope back there. He has potential to be a future captain of the national team.

  2. pintadoazulblanco says:

    Argentina’s backline has played terribly.

To say Demichelis has been great is ridiculous.

  3. Quico882k3 says:

perfect line up to me is

    Romero

    Zanetti Demichellis samuel Insua

    Mascherano Banega

    Riquelme
    or
    Pastore

    Messi Higuain DiMaria

  4. Demichelis says:

Insua? Really? I’d rather have Heinze over Insua in the back. I agree with your other three selections but I would substitute Insua for Zabaleta or Otamendi.

    • Quico882k3 says:

Thats true maybe Otamendi would be better then Insua but other then that i think that should be our starting line up a experienced and very solid deffence with the magic of riquelme leading the attack i also think mascherano and banega together would be more then solid banega is doing great at the moment

  5. Pablito says:

Que grande la pagina. Kudos to you. My parents are Argentine, I was born here. Anyways as some said before me, Its the defense that needs work, I think Demichelis has proved himself, as far as im concerned he’s the only one doing work, theres only so much one player can do. What about Milito, I know hes been out for about 2 years, but he was a key figure for Barcelonas D. Zanetti has to be on the line, I’m not to convinced with Heinze, don’t get me wrong he’s been a hell of a player in his prime, now he seems like to much of a liability. The middle needs help to, I though Clementes had a superb game against costa rica, he might have the potential to play on the squad, his style reminded me of Alves (Barcelona), running all up and down the side. Is he Defense or Middle? I’d put my money on him. Defense line though ~> Zanetti (GIVE HIM BACK THE CAPTAIN PATCH) Demichellis ~> Heinze ~> Samuel.~> as the line maradona will take . I really butchered all these players name!

  6. Pablito says:

    Romero
    Zanetti, Milito, Ayala, Heinze

    Clementes Cambiazzo

Riquelme ( although id like to see Lavezzi or D Maria try this position)

    Messi, Higuain, Tevez

    my ideal squad

    • Argentinafan says:

His name is clemente rodriguez, but he goes by Clemente. He used to play for Boca and also had a stint in europe. I don’t think he can play in a holding midfield role, only at right or left back. I’d go with:
      Romero
      Zanetti Demichelis Samuel
      Mascherano Banega

      Messi Riquelme Di Maria

      Higuain
Obviously this line up is impossible given Maradona being the coach and Riquelme won’t play for him. I think Pastore could player there as well though

  7. Quico882k3 says:

I dont think lavezzi or D maria fit the position of riquelme the only one that i c close it is pastore

  8. Pablito says:

porque no me suena pastore?? Does he play in Argentina?!? Im just now getting in to argentinean futbol! I guess we can all agree Gago shouldnt be on the pitch. I think Macherano really needs to step it up, especially if hes going to be captain!

  9. Argentinafan says:

Pastore played in Argentina with Hurucan and almost won the championship with them, but they lost to Velez on the last day of the season. he is now in Palermo and doing very well, scoring a brilliant goal yesterday
