Manchester City interested in Gago

During last night’s River-Boca game it was reported that Gago’s rumored return to Boca was a done deal.

Where will Gago move to?

Back to Argentina or to England?

Manchester City chase Real Madrid midfielder

Fernando Gago Having signed Patrick Vieira , Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is looking to add to his midfield by tempting Fernando Gago from Real Madrid , according to the Daily Mail.

Argentinian Gago is unhappy at his limited opportunities at the Bernebeu and finds himself behind Lassana Diarra and Esteban Granero in the Real pecking order. Although he played a full 90 minutes in the 2-0 win against Mallorca on Sunday, he has only made 3 starts in this season’s Primera Division.

Mancini will be aware that Vieira’s Manchester City contract only lasts until the end of the season and a more permanent addition would be useful, while Real Madrid will likely be prepared to recoup some of their huge summer spending by selling Gago.

The 23 year-old himself is concerned that being on the fringes of the Real Madrid squad will jeopardize his place in Argentina’s World Cup squad.

For this reason, Manchester City are facing strong competition from Boca Juniors for Gago’s signature. Gago will likely have greater opportunities of first team football at Boca than at Manchester City . The midfielder played at Boca for 3 seasons before his move to Madrid and reportedly his agent has already contacted the Buenos Aires club.

However, City do have the edge over Boca in spending power and it is believed that Real Madrid will ask a fee in the region of £7.5M.
