Top Goal Scorers in Europe

The 2008/09 season in Europe had Argentine forwards among the top goal scorers in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal.

Despite having so many top notch forwards playing in Europe, the national team is struggling to score goals in the WC qualifying campaign.

Perhaps, the national team manager will consider giving an opportunity to players like Higuain, Zarate and Cavenaghi.

These are Argentina’s top European goal scorers in the 2008/09 season.

Mauro Zarate
Lazio – 13 goals
Note – In his first season in Italy, Zarate was his team’s top goal scorer.

Fernando Cavenaghi
Bordeaux – 13 goals
Note – Cavenaghi was his team’s top goal scorer this season even though he missed two months due to an injury. Bordeaux won the French league title.

Lisandro Lopez
Porto – 17 goals
Note – Lopez was his team’s top goal scorer this season. Porto won the Portuguese league title.

Sergio Aguero
Atletico de Madrid – 21 goals

Gonzalo Higuain
Real Madrid – 22 goals
Note – Higuain was his team’s top goal scorer this season.

Diego Milito

I hadn’t really realized how many of our players were in the top of so many leagues. And your question of why the national team has such difficulty is a good question indeed.

Yeah, Argentina has goal scoring talent all over Europe. The only leagues that do not feature any top flight Argentine forwards are England & Germany.

If Tevez joins Manchester City maybe we’ll have a goal scorer in the Premier League next season.

I don’t see any though in Germany next season.

I think that Argentina will continue to struggle with goal scoring until Maradona makes some changes in the midfield & finds a suitable partner for Messi upfront.

Since Chile is located in South America not in Europe, what Barrios did with Colo Colo is irrelevant to this thread.
