The game against Colombia has come and gone. The only major positive of the game was the result. Argentina secured 3 valuable points and that’s pretty much all than can be said.
The WC qualifying campaign resumes on Wednesday against Ecuador in the high altitude.
Maradona confirmed that Andujar will continue as the starting GK. As far as the rest of the team, it is very likely that Maradona will go back to using a four man backline. There will be some new players in the midfield.
Mascherano is suspended because of yellow card accumulation. There could be a possible return for Maxi Rodriguez, perhaps the national team debut of Christian Gimenez who is used to playing in the high altitude. Gago might go back to his usual central midfield position after his dismal performance on the right side of the midfield against Colombia. It remains to be seen if Veron & Jonas Gutierrez will be back in the starting lineup.
There will most likely be only two players upfront. Aguero is not available because of the injury he picked up in the Colombia game. Messi might be on the bench because even though he’s eligible to play against Ecuador, there’s the risk of him receiving a yellow card, which will suspend him for the next WQ qualifier which will be against Brasil.
Who will play upfront?
There’s Tevez, Bergessio, Lisandro Lopez and Milito to choose from.
At this point, there are alot more questions than answers about the starting eleven against Ecuador.
