The next round of WQ qualifiers gets under way on Saturday with a critical home game against Colombia.
The game is without a doubt a must win for Argentina. The team is currently in 4th place in the qualifying standings and only two points ahead of Uruguay.
The remaining qualifiers will include an away game in the high altitude against Ecuador, a home game against Brasil and away games against Paraguay and Uruguay. There will be a home game against Peru in between but looking at all the other games that are left, it is clear that the road ahead will not be easy and securing a spot in the the next world cup, which was simply an afterthought, not too long ago, is far from being that today.
The team held a training session yesterday with almost all of the players calledup. The only players missing are Lisandro López, Daniel Díaz and Christian Giménez who are expected to arrive today. Estudiantes defender Marcos Angeleri was injured in a league game against Tigre and will not be able to participate in the next two WC qualifiers.
There are no signs yet as to who will be in the starting eleven against Colombia. There should be some news in the next few days.
