Milan make offer for Riquelme

October 19, 2007

According to tuttomercatoweb.com Milan have made an offer of 8 million dollars to Villareal for Juan Roman Riquelme who is currently under contract until 2008.

Even though Villareal’s manager continues to keep Riquelme out of the starting lineup the club has rejected higher offers than the one Milan has made.

Will Villareal’s board continue with their idiocy of rejecting multi million dollar offers for a player who will remain permanently sidelined and inactive because of a manager’s decision?

Milan busca a Riquelme

Zanetti reaches first place in all time caps

October 18, 2007

In last night’s WC Qualifier victory over Venezuela Javier Zanetti played in his 115th game with the Argentina shirt reaching first place alongside Roberto Ayala for most all time appearances with the national team.

Zanetti’s first game with Argentina was on November 16, 1994 in a friendly against Chile.

No doubt Zanetti will soon surpass Ayala and become the all time caps leader for Argentina.

13 years and counting with the Argentina shirt. A real testament to his endurance, perseverance and great talent. It is an awesome achievement.

GRANDE PUPI !!!!!!!!!!!

Argentina vs Chile

October 13, 2007

The road to another World Cup gets under way today as Argentina takes on Chile.

After the disastrous performance in the Copa America final Argentina will be looking to get back on the right track as the long WQ qualifying campaign begins.

Despite his inactivity Riquelme is back on the national team and in the starting lineup today. Basile continues to remain faithful to Riquelme and his 4-3-1-2- setup. Because of the problems he’s had with his club’s manager Riquelme has gone almost 3 months without playing and it remains to be seen how he’ll perform today in such a hard fought, competitive game as all WC qualifiers are.

Will he be ready?

How Argentina fares today will have alot to do with Riquelme’s performance. As he goes, so does the team. That will always be the case whenever he is in the lineup.

Basile has chosen to go with Abbondanzieri once again in the GK spot. Will Abbondanzieri go deep into the WC qualifiers? It’s hard to believe but it just might happen.

Zanetti will be the Captain today and will be in the starting right back position. A clear reflection of his continuing relevance and endurance but also of the lack of depth that Argentina finds itself in, in that position.

The return of Maxi Rodriguez on the right side of the midfield is important and will give the team a more solid presence in that part of the field, offensively and defensively.

Upfront the tandem of Messi and Tevez should be very exciting to watch. Alot of skill, speed and goal scoring power.

Chile? The biggest news is the return of Marcelo Salas and the other Marcelo……Marcelo Bielsa is their new manager and will no doubt have the team pressing in all lines and attacking often, as is his style. Will Chile be able to successfully adapt to Bielsa’s style of football?

Even though Basile said that he will not announce the starting lineup right up until game time according to most media reports the starting eleven will be the following:

Roberto Abbondanzieri – GK

Javier Zanetti – D
Martin Demichelis – D
Gabriel Milito – D
Gabriel Heinze – D

Maxi Rodriguez – M
Javier Mascherano – M
Esteban Cambiasso – M
Juan Roman Riquelme – M

Lionel Messi – F
Carlos Tevez – F

VAMOS ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!!!
