Official Team List for the WC Qualifying Debut

Riquelme returning once again to the national team.

Basile announced the list of players for the start of the WC qualifying campaign. The first game will be on October 13 against Chile.

There really aren’t too many surprise callups with the exception of Riquelme which maybe should not be a surprise considering Basile’s endless support and admiration for Riquelme. But, Does it really make any sense? Riquelme is nearing almost 3 months of inactivity and needless to say he will not be prepared to play in a highly competitive WC qualifying game. However, Basile will continue using a playmaker in his setup and apparently to him a less than fit Riquelme is better than anyone else in that position. Another Riquelme debate will no doubt erupt among fans and in the media very shortly.

The rest of the list…….Demichelis is back again and could possibly be on his way to earning a spot in the starting lineup. I’m not really sure why Coloccini and Insua earned a callup. I think it defies all logic and reason.

Upfront there is lots of young, explosive goal scoring talent. Basile could not go wrong there. I think all 4 forwards calledup are the absolute best Argentina has at this moment.

The road to another World Cup is about to begin.
