Argentina vs Mexico

Argentina will take on Mexico tonight in the second Semifinal game of the Copa. Mexico is an opponent that Argentina has become real familiar with in the last 8-10 years and Mexico has been a tough team to play against for Argentina.

There’s already been comparisons with the last game the teams played, in the 2006 World Cup, but those were different circumstances and as far as Argentina, it is a different team that will play against Mexico tonight.

Basile has confirmed 10 of the 11 starters, which will be the ones that have been in the starting lineup from the start of the Copa. The only spot not confirmed yet is the second forward position but it’ll be a shocker if Basile does not have Tevez in the starting eleven tonight. The general consensus at least in the media is that Tevez will play right from the start against Mexico. Also, Basile hasn’t confirmed Milito as of yet. That is surely a sign that he will go with Tevez.

Mexico will very likely be the first team in the Copa that will not sit back and defend with a wall of players against Argentina. That should make for a wide open, exciting game. In theory.

The biggest question with Mexico is whether their goal scorer and Copa revelation Nery Castillo will be able to recover from his injury and play tonight. It would be a significant loss for Mexico if Castillo is out of their lineup.

The game tonight could very well be the best game of the Copa, at least on paper and because of the good level of football that both teams have displayed.

I think whoever wins tonight will go on to win the Copa. Let that be Argentina.

The biggest key for Argentina tonight will be Riquelme. If he continues to play as he did in the last 45 minutes of the Peru game then the team will have a great shot at winning. Also, the talent and explosiveness of Tevez and Messi will be important. If they as well as Riquelme are able to link up and create good scoring chances the team will have a good night.

VAMOS ARGENTINA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I like Milito as a player, I will feel more confident in having Tevez start. Since the start of the Copa America, Riquelme has been getting better every game. Its funny because at night I go and play soccer on a team and a bunch of the guys there are Mexican and they always talk about Riquelme lol. I think they have a lot more to fear than just Riquelme. CAN’T WAIT TO WATCH THE GAME!!!

Yeah, I prefer Tevez over Milito.

Milito is a good player but he is limited in what he brings to the team, he is not very mobile and does not contribute much to the team other than positioning himself inside the box and waiting for a ball to come to him.

Tevez is the complete opposite…..he moves all over the field, he is very fast, is very skillful with the ball, can dribble around players, can help with the play buildup, and scores goals.

The team needs Tevez because he is the perfect fit with the explosiveness of Messi and the talent of Riquelme.

Tevez proved that in the Peru game. Argentina was a different team and played better with Tevez on the field.

I’m also looking forward to the game as well. The Mexico fans have more to worry about than just Riquelme. There is also Messi and Tevez who are in great form as well.

What you think of the rest of the lineup? As much as i love Cambiasso and his playing style….I would rather see Aimar in his position to relieve some pressure off of Roman. Mascherano has proven himself to be one of the most valuable players on the squad in my opinion because everytime the ball comes close to him…he steals it….that man is amazing.

  4. pintadoazulblanco says:

Masche is awesome, he’s the heart and soul of the team but against Mexico he will need defensive support from Cambiasso. Mexico’s midfielders are fast and move around the field alot. As great as he’s playing he won’t be able to do it all by himself.

Winning the ball in the middle will be crucial tonight.

If Mexico does attack and play aggressively then I think Riquelme will have alot more open space to maneuver in so he won’t need Aimar as much for the play buildup and to draw defenders away from him.

I’m an Aimar fan and love seeing him play alongside Riquelme, Messi, Tevez, etc…but I think against Mexico it is the right game for Cambiasso to be in and he’s had an outstanding Copa so far.

I guess I can see that for this game its better to have cambiasso in. It will absolutely help out our defense. I am so anxious to watch the game!!! What channel do you watch it on? I watch it on GolTV which I had to pay extra for that package even though its in English….its ok….nothing compared to watching it on something like Fox Sports en Espanol. What do you think the score will be? I’m going for 3-1 Argentina winning of course hehe.

  6. pintadoazulblanco says:

I’ll be watching the game on Gol TV as well.

I’m not a fan of the announcers on Univision.

The score? I don’t like to make predictions. I’ll be very happy with an Argentina win and with a good football display.

I 100% agree with you on the announcers on Univision…..they are all mexican and seem to favor mexico a lot more. You should check it out on Fox Sports en Espanol. They are from Argentina and they make the game much more exciting. They are not showing the games live this year but they show them 3 hours later in the day. I like watching it on GolTV and then 3 hours later watch again with Argentine announcers 🙂

I don’t like the Univision announcers because they are totally biased towards Mexico and don’t even bother to hide it. I also don’t like them because they are clueless about whoever is playing against Mexico. And the biggest reason why I don’t watch the games on Univision is because the announcers are not very knowledgeable about football. They’re pathetic.

I watch Fox Sports Espanol all the time. Their announcers based in Argentina are biased towards Argentina teams but the difference is that they know alot more about football then the Univision clowns and they are entertaining, funny, well prepared and informed about the teams playing, and have a good broadcasting style that makes the games exciting.

I’m watching the Copa on Gol TV in English and I’m glad that there’s another network showing the Copa. Luckily, we’re no longer stuck with only Univision.
