Juan Carlos Muñoz

Juan Carlos Muñoz, Jose Manuel Moreno, Adolfo Pedernera, Angel Labruna and Felix Loustau

Juan Carlos Muñoz, the only living member of the most legendary team in Argentine football history, the River Plate team of the 1940’s, has passed away at the age of 90.

Muñoz was one of the five famous forwards, along with Loustau and Argentine football legends Moreno, Pedernera, and Labruna that played in “The Machine”, the name given to those River Plate teams.

Muñoz was known for his speed and dribbling skills and helped River win the Argentine league championship in 1941, 1942, 1945 and 1947.

The Machine was so loaded in talent that Alfredo Di Stefano, who was on several of those teams, struggled to make it into the starting lineup.

Di Stefano has repeatedly said that The Machine was the best team he’s ever seen.

Inter to increase offer for Otamendi

Acording to reports in the Italian media, Inter is willing to pay 10 million euros for Velez defender Nicolas Otamendi.

Inter had originally offered 4 million euros.

El Inter italiano está dispuesto a desembolsar 10 millones de euros para llevarse a Nicolás Otamendi, el joven defensor de Vélez, en enero próximo, según revelaron hoy distintos medios italianos.

Después de haber hecho una primera oferta de algo más de cuatro millones de euros, el Inter parece dispuesto ahora a duplicar esa cifra para quedarse con el jugador de la selección argentina, pretendido además por un puñado de equipos españoles y otros de la liga inglesa.

Otamendi llegaría al Inter para darle algo de oxígeno a la defensa del último campeón italiano, cuyos integrantes, entre ellos Walter Samuel, ya están alrededor de los 30 años.

El jugador de Vélez fue una de las máximas figuras del campeonato obtenido el último semestre por el club de Liniers y tuvo propuestas para irse a mitad de año, pero los dirigentes fortineros prefirieron que se quedara seis meses más para elevar su cotización.

Por eso, lo más probable es que, luego de la oferta de 10 millones de euros, Otamendi se mude a Italia en enero.
