Higuain on playing for France

Gonzalo Higuain is apparently not ruling out the possibility of playing for the French national team.

In an interview with the French magazine So Foot, Higuain said “You never know” in response to being asked if he would like to represent the French national team in the 2010 world cup.

Higuain was asked if he would accept playing for the French national team if Maradona continued to ignore him.

Higuain replied:

“It is gratifying that the French national team manager is interested in me and the French team is a world power, so you never know.”

Higuain also said:

“I work hard every day so that Maradona can call me up. I want to play in the 2010 world cup. I do not lose all hope even though I don’t really know why he continues to forget about me in his call ups.”

“There are rumors that I’m not interested in the Argentina shirt but it is completely false. It is one of my dreams.”

PARIS, Francia (EFE).- El jugador franco-argentino de Real Madrid Gonzalo Higuaín aseguró que sueña con jugar el próximo Mundial de Sudáfrica con Argentina, pero no le cerró la puerta a Francia si el seleccionador albiceleste, Diego Armando Maradona, sigue sin convocarlo.

“Hay rumores que dicen que no me atrae la camiseta albiceleste, pero es completamente falso. Es uno de mis sueños”, aseguró el delantero merengue en una entrevista publicada hoy en la edición digital de la revista gala “So Foot”.

El jugador, que tiene un pasaporte francés porque nació en la localidad bretona de Brest, donde jugaba su padre, decidió en 2007 optar por la selección argentina y rechazó la convocatoria del técnico francés, Raymond Domenech, por una cuestión de “sentimientos”.

“Trabajo duro todos los días para que Maradona me convoque. Quiero disputar el Mundial de 2010 y no pierdo completamente la esperanza, aunque no sé realmente por qué continúa olvidándome en sus convocatorias”, indicó el jugador de 21 años.

Preguntado sobre si podría aceptar vestirse con la casaca francesa si Maradona continua ignorándole, el delantero aseguró que “es gratificante” que el técnico galo se interese por él y que “el equipo de Francia es una potencia mundial” por lo que “nunca se sabe”.

Higuaín rivaliza por la delantera argentina con Sergio “Kun” Aguero (Atlético de Madrid, yerno de Maradona), Diego Milito (Inter) y Carlos Tevez (Manchester City).

Heinze signs with Olympique Marseille

Heinze was forced to leave Madrid because their new manager made it known that he did not want Heinze on the team and Olympique was the only team that made a concrete offer for him.

El Olympique de Marsella, por su parte, ya ha hecho oficial el acuerdo alcanzado con el club blanco en su página web.

Según reza el comunicado del club francés, sólo falta que el futbolista pase el pertinente reconocimiento médico para que el fichaje sea oficial.

El experimentado mediocampista González, que pasó al Marsella desde el Porto por 18 millones de euros (25 millones de dólares), salió de la cancha con el brazo izquierdo en cabestrillo acompañado por el médico del club, Christophe Baudot, después de unos 60 minutos de transcurrido el encuentro.

El Marsella indicó en su página de internet que el futbolista fue llevado a un hospital en Valencia para ser examinado.

El jugador chocó con Kevin Mirallas, del conjunto rival, y quedó un tiempo quejándose en el suelo. El golpe lo sufrió en la clavícula izquierda y fue sustituido inmediatamente.

Al finalizar el encuentro, el técnico se refirió al inconveniente del mediocampista argentino. “Lucho partió rápido a efectuarse radiografías, pero se quejaba de un muy fuerte dolor en la clavícula izquierda”, afirmó Didier Deschamps, en conferencia de prensa.

Además, el DT mostró su preocupación por la flamante incorporación del club francés para esta temporada, “Veremos qué dicen los exámenes, pero es la clavícula, y hay preocupación” concluyó el entrenador, pieza clave en el seleccionado de Francia que ganó el Mundial de 1998 en su país.

González participó en 43 partidos con la selección argentina en toda su carrera, en los que convirtió seis goles.

Si bien González no fue convocado por Diego Maradona para el amistoso internacional del 12 de agosto ante los rusos, en Moscú, es uno de los jugadores a los que habitualmente recurre para compromisos por las Eliminatorias sudamericanas para el Mundial de Sudáfrica 2010.

Y acerca de esa delicada recta final, en el horizonte del seleccionado albiceleste aparecen nada menos que Brasil, el 5 de septiembre en el Gigante de Arroyito, y Paraguay, el 8 de ese mes en el Defensores de Chaco, de Asunción.

AFA president Julio Grondona has decided to temporarily suspend the start of the Apertura 09 until the teams in debt pay all of the players salaries.

El Comité Ejecutivo de la Asociación del Fútbol Argentino (AFA) resolvió anoche no iniciar el torneo Apertura de la primera división, por “tiempo indeterminado”, a raíz de las profusas deudas que mantienen varios clubes de diferentes categorías con la gremial de Futbolistas Argentinos Agremiados (FAA).

A primera hora, la mesa directiva de la Primera B Nacional había resuelto también diferir el inicio de su campeonato, programado para el sábado 8 de agosto.

Más tarde, los directivos de las entidades de primera división adoptaron una postura similar y aventuraron que la medida es “por tiempo indeterminado”, hasta tanto las entidades deudoras salden las abultadas sumas que aún no han pagado.

“Cuando las posibilidades estén dadas para que todas las instituciones puedan nivelar sus planteles, se verá”, declaró el presidente de AFA, Julio Grondona, a la salida de la reunión.

“Hace cuatro o cinco años que venimos pidiendo el Prode bancado. En muchos lados juegan con nuestro fixture y no tenemos adónde recurrir. Si se puede jugar clandestino, por qué no se va a poder jugar regular”, aseveró el máximo dirigente del fútbol argentino.

La referencia del hombre instalado en el sillón más poderoso del fútbol desde hace más de 30 años tiene que ver con los sitios de apuestas internacionales que utilizan partidos de los torneos argentinos en sus respectivas grillas.

El dirigente pretende que el Estado le entregue una “mano” en la institución del denominado Prode bancado.

Otra alternativa consistiría en aumentar los montos que la empresa encargada de la televisación (Torneos y Competencias) distribuye a los distintos clubes. Actualmente apenas llega al dos por ciento de la recaudación bruta.

Luego Grondona se refirió a la situación particular de los clubes de primera división y dijo que “hay catorce que no tienen problemas. Hay seis en cambio, con inconvenientes, por la crisis”.

Si bien el presidente no las nombró pudo saberse que las instituciones más afectadas con las deudas hacia Agremiados son Newell’s, Independiente, San Lorenzo, River Plate, Huracán y Rosario Central.

Racing Club, Chacarita Juniors y Atlético Tucumán poseen deudas menores, pero también podrían caer en la inhibición.

En la primera B Nacional el principal deudor es Platense, seguido por Unión de Santa Fe y Olimpo de Bahía Blanca. También soportan inconvenientes financieros San Martín de San Juan, Quilmes, Ferro Carril Oeste, Defensa y Justicia y Aldosivi de Mar del Plata.

En cambio, en la Primera B Metropolitana están acuciados los clubes Nueva Chicago y Almagro, que deben alrededor de 600 mil pesos cada uno a la gremial de futbolistas.

Social Español tiene que abonar unos 120 mil pesos, mientras que Temperley fue inhibido por los futbolistas que dejaron la institución. También están con problemas los clubes Flandria, Central Córdoba de Rosario y Deportivo Morón, que anunció que saldará lo adeudado a fin de semana, cuando perciba un dinero por la transferencia del marcador Hugo Campagnaro, de la Sampdoria al Nápoli italiano.

La próxima reunión del Comité Ejecutivo, programada para el martes 11 de agosto, determinará si se levanta o no la suspensión por “tiempo indeterminado” del fútbol, debido a que el arranque del Apertura de primera división está programado, en principio, para el viernes 14.

Former Argentina skipper Sorin to retire

Former Argentina captain Juan Pablo Sorin announced his retirement from soccer at the age of 33 on Tuesday.

The left back, who led Argentina to the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup in Germany, had been plagued by injuries during his third spell with Brazilian side Cruzeiro, playing only six matches in the last seven months.

“I’m going to stop playing football,” Sorin told reporters. “It’s been 15 years … a very enjoyable career.”

Sorin played for Argentinos Juniors and River Plate in his home country, Juventus, Lazio, Barcelona, Paris St Germain, Villarreal and Hamburg SV in Europe.

A South American Libertadores Cup winner with River Plate in 1996, Sorin missed this year’s final, which Cruzeiro lost against Estudiantes of Argentina earlier this month.

Sorin, who belonged to the Argentine generation of Juan Sebastian Veron, Hernan Crespo and Ariel Ortega, also played at the 2002 World Cup. He made 76 international appearances, scoring 12 goals.

Call up list for Russia game

Maradona gave the list of players today for the upcoming friendly against Russia.

Huracan’s talented central midfielder Mario Bolatti is receiving his first call up to the national team. Bolatti was one of the best players in the Clausura 09 and is definitely a player to watch.

Otamendi is getting another call up and he is also another promising player, among the best in the new generation of defenders coming out of Argentina.

Unfortunately, on the list there are also players that are not deserving of a call up.

Papa, Heinze, Gutierrez, Aguero, Diaz, Burdisso, Datolo, Battaglia, Tevez (who is currently injured) are highly questionable call ups.

Lavezzi to leave Napoli

Due to the ongoing war of words between Lavezzi and the Napoli president over his salary increase request, it appears that Lavezzi will be playing elsewhere this upcoming season.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Lavezzi could be heading to either Inter or Juventus.

Según el diario, en los últimos meses se deterioró aún más la relación entre el presidente del Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, y Lavezzi, que ya en junio había expresado en una carta su descontento por el trato recibido de parte del director general del equipo napolitano, Pier Paolo Marino.

En aquel momento, el jugador se quejó porque Marino no pretendía respetar el acuerdo al que habían llegado para que el club aumentara su sueldo, pasando de 1,3 a dos millones de euros, y aseguró que si esta revisión de su contrato no se llevaba a cabo, se iría del Nápoles.

Maradona was asked by Ole about a possible callup for el Cuchu Cambiasso and Maradona said the following:

“I don’t have him for my team. It’s a matter of tastes. I don’t have anything against the kid, on the contrary, I’ve known him since he was little, but no. Because of the position where Cambiasso plays, on the left side, it doesn’t seduce me.”

So, Maradona has no use for Cambiasso, who just completed his best season ever in Italy, but he has endless amount of praise for Jonas Gutierrez.

I am really baffled as to what Maradona sees in Gutierrez.

Too bad for Cambiasso who really does deserve a callup to the national team.

I think that he would be able to fill that role on the left side of the midfield alot better than Gutierrez, who is able to run alot, but does not contribute much to the teams attack and is very inconsistent with his marking.

What Argentina needs on the left side of the midfield is not a sprinter, it needs someone that can participate in the play buildup and cover that zone effectively.

Gutierrez will be playing in a second division league this season while Cambiasso continues his very successful run with Inter.

Maradona under contract until 2011 Copa America

Maradona told Ole that his contract with the national team does not expire until after the 2011 Copa America, which will take place in Argentina.

Maradona also dismissed rumors that he would resign as manager of the national team to work at Portsmouth.

Maradona said:

“No, it is not like that. Sky blue & white blood runs in my veins. There is no way that I am abandoning the ship.”

Multiplicar el interés y fundamentalmente los ceros con Diego en ese lugar…

Al entrenador de la Selección lo sedujo la idea que varias marcas le llevaron o consensuaron con Grondona. Maradona se siente cómodo trabajando en Ezeiza, con el apoyo de los jugadores y sin temor a un temblor por la doble fecha que se viene con Brasil y Paraguay en septiembre. Quiere perdurar en el cargo que tanto esperó. Por eso le dio el sí a Claudia Villafañe, su ex esposa y quien le manejó la firma del contrato. Ella coordinó la extensión y le consiguió un número que supera en más del doble al que cobraban Alfio Basile, José Pekerman y Marcelo Bielsa: 1.200.000 dólares contra 500.000, según la información que se filtró.

Casualmente Diego jugó la última Copa Amércia que se organizó en la Argentina, en el 87. Aunque no la pudo ganar contra el Uruguay de Enzo Francescoli y Antonio Alzamendi. Ahora, independientemente de su suerte en el Mundial, tendría revancha. De este modo, la extensión lo arrimaría a un ciclo convencional de conducción. Serían casi tres años en la Selección. Q – Alright, let’s review all your managers with short answers, Passarella?

Z – The first manager that bet on me, who gave me alot of confidence along with a group of young players that consolidated to play our first world cup.

Q – Bielsa?

Z – He brought out the best of me on the field and formed me also as a person.

Q – Pekerman?

Z – With him I don’t have any type of resentment. He gave me the possibility to continue on the national team after Marcelo left. And up until three months before the world cup, I participated, playing in all the games. Afterward I did not go to Germany and he must know the reasons.

Q – Do you owe a conversation with him?

Z – No, I think that it is not necessary. It was a decision that he took at that moment and no matter how many conversations we may have now, I did not play in that world cup.

Q – Basile?

Z – Coco was the manager who had trust in me again and he also made me captain after the retirement of Raton Ayala. I respect and value him alot because of that.

Q – How did you process his resignation?

Q – Which is the word to define this moment for the national team?

Z – We can’t talk about being scared but we have to be conscious of the moment that we are living.

Q – Brasil is coming and everything indicates that there will be a move to Rosario.

Z – It’s beautiful that the national team can appear in different parts of the country. In Italy, the national team does not play only in Milan or Rome. This is a clasico and in these games the closer you have the fans, the better.

Q – How are we compared to the best national teams in the world?

Z – Spain is well, Brasil woke up, Italy and Germany are respectable but I tell you the truth, what happens today does not matter. The important thing is to qualify for the world cup and to be well during the world cup.

Q – Do we have to pray for Messi to be in the same form that he is now, a year from now?

Z – He is going to be our ace of spades. The issue is to not be comparing all the time what he does in Barcelona with what he does in Argentina. The games that he plays with his club and the ones that he plays with us are completely different. The world cup qualifiers are terrible, closed in, very difficult games.

Z – The world cup games despite being the most important ones are alot more open. The world cup qualifiers are a war, there are games in which from the start football is not played.
