After 13 years and 115 games, an all time record, with the national team Captain Roberto Ayala has made it official; he will no longer play on the national team.
Ayala was for many years Argentina’s best defender, a class act and a well respected leader.
Ayala won two titles with the national team; 1995 Panamerican Games and the Gold medal in the 2004 Olympics.
Despite Sunday’s devastating loss and his own unfortunate contribution in it Ayala leaves behind an outstanding career with the national team.
There aren’t too many players anywhere in the world that have played 13 years with their national team while consistently playing at a high level for all those years.
Ayala did and deserves the respect he has rightfully earned.
